Our Story

In 1996 when Christine and Eric purchased six acres of land on the Flat Road, they had a dream of growing fruits and vegetables for the community. Since that time, they have slowly been working on realizing that dream.

In the fall of 2000, Christine, Eric, their three year old son Eliot, and not yet born daughter Sophie,  moved into their new home designed and built by Eric with the help of many friends from the community. The following summer they started their first garden consisting of two 8’ x 4’ raised beds.

Each year thereafter the garden has slowly expanded to its current size of almost an acre of land that includes a small high tunnel. In the next few years, they will continue to expand their growing space as well as add a larger high tunnel for early season greens.

The property included a neglected apple orchard consisting of over a 100 Macintosh and Cortland trees that had been planted 80 years prior. Over the past number of years, Eric revitalized the orchard by pruning the old trees, replacing dead trees, as well as grafting new apple varieties onto existing trees. Now the orchard is comprised of over 40 different varieties of apple trees, including many heirlooms, as well as pears, peaches, and cherries.

In addition to plants, the family has added a number of critters to the farm. In 2010, they built a small chicken coop to house their first ten laying hens. Since that time, they have added a larger coop to accommodate the current flock of thirty chickens and three roosters. In 2014, Eric, again with the help of friends, built a barn almost entirely from repurposed, upcycled materials.

The barn is now home to the current cast of characters:  two fiber sheep, four dairy goats, and three Jersey cows. The eventual goal is to become a licensed dairy and sell the wonderful creamy Jersey milk as well as yogurt, soft cheeses, and ice-cream.

Volunteer Opportunities

We feel that a key component of our work is to provide education to others, so we offer opportunities to volunteer on our farm through the WWOOF program (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms).
